When it first arrived, in 1910, it was renowned as one of Australia's most scenic railways routes. Today it is operated by a devoted group of dedicated volunteers in their spare time.
Following an absence of over 50 years, and thanks to some prolonged, enthusiastic efforts and the odd masterful feat of prodigious civil engineering, the Walhalla Goldfields Railway returned to Walhalla in March, 2002.
