In its time, the original vault of the Bank of Victoria stored 72 tons of Walhalla gold, behind doors that weighed over 800kg. At March, 2007's relatively high price of almost $US650 (roughly $AU840) per ounce, that would be worth more than $AU2 billion.
Temporary home to more than $2,000,000,000.00 in gold!
The remains of the vault are halfway up Walhalla's main street, betweeen the Store and the Mechanics Institute.
